Athens Zinefest was started in 2013 as a personal endeavor and has since been organized by a larger group of ziners who aspire to multiply each year. The festival is organized yearly, is sponsor and ad free, and welcomes only non-commercially-minded publications. Our goals include self-organization and the dissemination of fanzine culture away from trends which periodically afflict the zine universe. We aim for the dissemination of DIY culture, as well as to embracing an alternative economy and sustaining a solidarity network where creation and freedom of expression are not dictated by commercial standards.
Participation in the group is open to all. On the occasion of the 2016 Athens Zinefest, we made a leaflet (only available in Greek at the moment, unfortunately) which addresses what we believe to be main issues that concern the fanzine community. Read it and get in touch if you want to get involved.

zinefest2017: we want it to be a day made by zines for zines, based on self-organization and collective action, without wannabe experts. how about you?
we have no intention of organizing a zinefest as a mall-like one-stop-shop, where zines will arrive and sit on shelves to be sold, while the leftovers return to their homes as soon as it's over. instead, we aim to organize a gathering of zines, a day dedicated to them, a day during which they will be both the speakers as well as the subjects of conversations.
with this in mind, we ask everyone interested to participate in making this happen, to add to it and to make it your own. let's mingle, mix our craziness and our thoughts.
