Athens Zinefest was started in 2013 as a personal endeavor and has since been organized by a larger group of ziners who aspire to multiply each year. The festival is organized yearly, is sponsor and ad free, and welcomes only non-commercially-minded publications. Our goals include self-organization and the dissemination of fanzine culture away from trends which periodically afflict the zine universe. We aim for the dissemination of DIY culture, as well as to embracing an alternative economy and sustaining a solidarity network where creation and freedom of expression are not dictated by commercial standards.

Participation in the group is open to all. On the occasion of the 2016 Athens Zinefest, we made a leaflet (only available in Greek at the moment, unfortunately) which addresses what we believe to be main issues that concern the fanzine community.
